One should ask about 10,000.00 dollars worth of checks missing from the gcic fund but have been cashed. Also should ask about deleted invoices from gcic fund. This is the most crooked town in the state.

I think that the City of Demorest has very loyal and honest employees that strive to make Demorest a happy place. Why can we not dwell on the fact that the city is a safe and beautiful place to live with a small town charm that is worth the money and the time that the City Manager and Mayor put into this place that we can all call home.

It is not a big suprise to see all the trouble a tax payer in Demorest
goes thru to obtain public information. The tax payer must pay the City
of Demorest employees, City Manager/Councel,etc. and the city attorney
to obtain public information that the citizens should know. Plus pay
city tax once a year. What a rip off.
So due to the non-information obtained we can go by hear say and
believe that the city manager, councel, department heads are paid well
over 50,000.per year plus all the other free stuff, gas, phones, cars,
food, clothes. Were are all the people in line for their jobs?
With unemployment so high in the United States, I'm sure that honest
educated people could fill these jobs for less pay and more honest
answers to the citizens of
Demorest. The people in charge now spend to much time covering up the
scandle in Demorest, that they have caused over the years and not
enough time caring for the citzens. Why would it be so hard to find
out their pay scale if it wasn't to high for the area and the job
duties involved. If thats such a big secret, then what else are they
hiding? I guess we want know the answer until it comes out like the
illegal land purchase, and the Stonebrook issue. Now that this wedsite
exists we're sure the city manager and council will work harder to keep
all the scandle covered up.

We as citizens of Demorest should not be suprised that the City
Manager doesn't want us to know what her yearly salary is. Knowing
that anyone more qualified/educated could apply for the job and
knowing that her contract could not be renewed for employment next
year is a good reason to hide the pay scale. She,the police,and fire
chief are hired each year by the city, by contract. We should wonder
if there is a clause in the contract that requires you to be good at
changing the truth (lying) to the public. If the contracts are not
renewed by the council members then they would be out of work, like
many americans are today. Thats why it's such a big deal to share with
the citizens that they make over 50,000 per year. With great benefits.
There afraid everyone will want the job because most people in the
county do not make incomes that high. Maybe you should check with the
city of Clarkesville, Baldwin, Cornelia, Mt. Airy and find out the
employee pay scale so the citizens of Demorest can compare the
salaries of the City Manager, Police/ Fire Chief, Water department and
other city employees. There could be a line of people wanting there
jobs at that council meeting in Dec/January, when the contracts are
renewed.

And I liked the fact that this year the money (profit) made from the
4th of July will go for improvement in the park, funny thing two years
ago the city was given a grant from the government to pay for the
improvement (playground equipment). Just like the one given to the
City of Baldwin in the past week. Why would they not ask for a grant
to pay for this. Maybe that was the only thing the City Manager could
come up with when asked. We should ask what happened to the profit for
the last 20 years.

It all goes back to the clause (lying) and cover up. What happend with
the Stonebrook subdivison problem, the Northeast Georgia Newspaper has
not reported anything being resolved since April. Did the citizens in
Stonebrook get any tax dollars back after paying the city taxes all
those years and not being annexed legally in the city? What about the
citzens in Stonebrook's vote for Mayor and city council members in the
last election, wasn't it a close race for Mayor maybe Skinner should
be Mayor of Demorest instead of Hunnicutt if the vote was recounted. I
think some one said the citizens would not get any money back from the
taxes payed because the city of demorest did provide police/fire
protection and trash/water to the citizens of Stonebrook. But when it
was said they left out that it was IILEGAL police/fire protection
because the city was out of there jurisdiction and the city
Manager/council new this all the years that it happend. And I'm sure
the citizens in Stonebrook paid for there water/trash service. If I
lived in Stonebrook I would want to know where my vote went, it
counted for nothing, one of the few rights of American citizens were
taken away by the city manager, mayor, and council, due to cover up.
The manager,mayor and council, police/fire chief, owe the truth to the
citizens of demorest, they work for the citizens. The citizens pay
taxes and thats who pays there salaries. It should be know to all
citizens there pay scale without going tru attorneys that are paid by
the citizens of demorest tax dollars to cover up for the crooks in
charge. So the citizens lose all the way around, there dollars are
taken to pay the manager,councel,etc. in charge of the city, the
attorneys to protect the ones in charge, and where do the citizens end
up?
WITHOUT: tax dollars or answers.

I have lived in this area for 26 years and I am so very thankful for all the hard work and extra effort that all the employees of the City of Demorest put in and I think they deserve every penny of their salaries. I would be willing to say that if you look at salaries from other cities, Demorest officials are probably underpaid. Ask yourself if that were your job, would the salary be sufficient enough? Hooray for the town of Demorest , they do a great job! As far as the stop sign issue, DON’T BREAK THE LAW, and you won’t have to spend your time writing disgruntled letters, its easy! I think we should all be grateful for our city, and I don’t care who runs the town we had a wonderful 4^th of July celebration that was greatly appreciated! To all City of Demorest officials and workers, GREAT JOB!!!!!

The real thank you should go to Community Bank&Trust for providing the
great fireworks display free to the public. And a big thank you to
Piedmont College for allowing the fireworks to be fired from their
property. Both Piedmont and Community Bank gave free of charge to the
public. THANK YOU!!

Then theres the City of Demorest, their Glorious Fourth of July
Celebration 2009,2008,2007, etc. Has always been for PROFIT. The city
provides a park and street for vendors. The vendors must pay a fee to
use the area. The city has a cake walk, where the cakes are donated by
citizens in the area, the money at the cake walk is profit for the
city. Then the city has the auction where the items are donated by
local business owners, which are sold for a PROFIT to the City of
Demorest. Without the FREE fireworks, free items, free cakes to the
City there would not be alot to clebrate. And again where does this
profit go?? Does anyone know this answer? Over the years has anyone
been told where the profit from the Fourth of July Celebration goes in
the city budget. Did it go in the police department budget, fire
department budget, water department budget etc. or just a pay raise
for City Manager. Maybe it buys the new T-shirts that the ladies in
the City Hall wear each year at the Fourth of July Celebration.
Someone should ask how much did Demorest make during the celebration,
do they include those funds as profit when they are audited each year.
Or is that something else that is covered up. Most people come to the
celebration and think Demorest did all of this, but just like always
Demorest did nothing but take from the people, not give. Community
Bank&Trust, and Piedmont College gave and to that I say Thank You.

The City of Demorest is operated by family, the City Clerk and the Mayor are brother and sister in-law.

The Mayor and Police Chief play golf together every friday, when the police chief is being paid to work in the City.

The chief of police cousin works in the administration department at the police department.

The citizens of demorest pay the entire family well with there hard earned tax dollars. And all the citizens get are lies and cover up from the Manager.

Someone needs to request the city employees pay scale. Did you know you City Clerk makes over 50,000 per year, also Demorest has the highest paid police chief in the State of Ga.,over 50,000 per year for a 5 man department including the chief. Jobs come with free gas, cell phone, food, clothes and vehicle. Some city employees (not police/fire department) drive city vehicles home everyday, gas paid for by the citizens of Demorest.

Also who benefit's from the money made during the Fourth of July celebration they have a cake walk and auction, where all the city workers bid on the items, what is done with this money any thing for the city??

I lived in Demorest, was born there 1960 and moved to SC 2007.
I do know some about how the town is run, mostly by the college.
Demorest is my hometown, I've seen and heard a lot about "city hall", what a waste of $.

Why would they put a stop sign in the road? Oh wait it's Demorest, they do everything bassackwards!

Queastion~~~Have you thought about having a message board like VBulleten OR Pliner.net? Then members could talk with each other.

Does Piedmont college own Demorest?

It's interesting that Demorest gets the credit for the state highway improvements. Piedmont College and the state highway department did the walkway and the light, Demorest only had to let it happen.

love going to Demorest it is a loving place. The black fencing that you put up really looks nice. I also like the new stop sign and the new traffic light. I would advise everyone to go and see Demorest!!

First thing is I love the website.

Second I think you should post the city of demorest pay scale to the citizens of demorest. Starting with the City Manager, Police Chief, Water Department, the city water employee that is a council members son. Their pay is public knowledge, but no one seems to know, but the tax payers should be aware of where the money goes.

I don't want to be involved, but I think the citizens need to know this information. When you see their pay scale you will understand.

I love the black fencing that you all have now! I attended Piedmont years ago and when I drive by now, I think it makes a classy look for the college and city with the new walkway bridge. Keep up the good work!

That siding display building ... they never should have allowed that many store fronts in that location. The Hair Dresser fine, women will go anywhere for that if they like the cut they get, but how many other businesses are like that. Any retail business will die a slow death in a location like that. Why did they allow parking so close to the street? Crew cab pickups stick out into the road. Why create the congestion??? The bright side is those rentals will be vacant most of the time. What a loser location for retail.
